Somewhere along the way, people decided that copywriting and copyediting were separate industries. Then came blog writing, article writing, and website copy, as though those were different things too.
Editing happens after writing. Proofreading happens repeatedly. Blogs, articles, landing pages, and website text are still just writing meant to be read on a digital device—the labels change, the work does not.
At Working with commas, we produce writing meant to be read online.
That means writing people can move through without effort. Sentences that make sense the first time they are read. Paragraphs that do not wander. Information that is easy to find, easy to follow, and worth finishing.
Before anything is written, we look at the business, the audience, and what the content actually needs to say. Structure matters. Length matters. Clarity matters.
Testing the Content
Online writing competes with distractions. People skim, scroll, leave pages half-read, and move on quickly. Testing helps determine if a piece of writing can hold attention and communicate its message clearly.
- Word Count
Word count affects how long a reader has to stay with a piece. More words do not add clarity — they add reading time. We look for the balance between depth and efficiency, so every word has a job. - Reading Time
Readers work between interruptions. Content has to respect that. We evaluate whether a piece can realistically be read in the time a busy person has available, usually 3 to 4 minutes. - Reading Level
If a reader has to reread a sentence to understand it, the message has already weakened. We use readability standards, including the Flesch-Kincaid readability tests, to ensure content meets the audience where they are.
Our Process
Each project moves through a deliberate structure:
1. Discovery and research
2. Content outline and talking points
3. First draft
4. First revision based on client feedback
5. Second revision based on client feedback
6. Final content delivery
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is random. Every step has a purpose.
